今日も、イギリス人の「国民性」について。
先日、
Top 50 ‘typically British’ traits
という記事を紹介しましたが、更に典型的なイギリス人の国民性を紹介する記事を見つけたのでシェアします 🙂

前回とかぶっている部分もありますが、それだけ特徴のあることなんだな、ということでご容赦ください^^;

•Wearing summer clothing at the first sight of sun
(太陽を一目見ただけで、夏服を着る)
※基本、曇り空ですからね・・・
•Apologising automatically
(自動的に謝る)
※これも日本人っぽい
•Ability to talk at length about the weather
(天気について長時間話すことができる)
•Making a cup of tea in response to a crisis
(危機の時には紅茶を作る)
•Finding queue-jumping the ultimate crime
(列の割り込みは究極の罪だと思っている)
•Forming a queue for pretty much anything
(どんなことにも列を作る)

(どんな時も表情を変えない)
•Grumbling throughout a meal, but not telling staff so as not to cause a fuss

※日本人っぽいです

(嫌味/つまらない冗談を言う)

(風刺をクスクス笑う)

(飲む時間がないのに、紅茶を作る)
•Getting sunburnt on the first warm day of the year
(その年の暖かくなった初日に日焼けをする)
•Finding the American forwardness ‘a bit much’
(アメリカ人のずうずうしさを「ちょっと度が過ぎる」と思っている)
※実際は、「かなりずうずうしい」という意味です^^;
•Avoiding eye contact on the tube
(地下鉄の中では目を合わせないようにする)
•Binge drinking at the weekends
(週末はどんちゃん騒ぎ)
•Insisting the other person goes through the door first
(ドアを先に通らせることを他人にも求める)
•Searching for a fry-up when on holiday abroad
(焼き過ぎたフライ料理を海外での休暇中にも探す)
•Mistaking brightness for warmth
(日の光だけで暖かさを判断し、見誤る)
※常に曇っているから、ちょっと日が出ると「暖かい日」と思ってしまうようです
•Finding nothing better than a bacon sandwich
(ベーコンサンドイッチに勝るものはないと思っている)
•Not asking for help so as not to ‘put anyone out’
(他人の気を害さないように助けを求めない)
•Insisting the barbecue will still go on despite rain
(雨にもかかわらず予定されていたバーベキューをやろうとする)
•Bringing out fancy biscuits on a plate for visitors
(奇抜なビスケットを皿に乗せてお客にふるまう)
•Feeling extremely patriotic during sports events
(スポーツのことになると、急に愛国者になる)
※日本とおなじですね

(1パイントのビールとかごに盛られたポテトチップスが大好き)
•Reading newspapers in the morning
(朝、新聞を読む)
•Feeling at home to the tune of EastEnders or Coronation Street
(ドラマ’EastEnders’や’Coronation Street’がテレビに映っていると、家にいるような感じになる)
•Wearing extra layers rather than putting the heating on
(寒いときは、ヒーターをつけるより服をもう一枚着る)
•Feeling appreciative that the person in front put the ‘next customer’ barrier on the conveyor belt
(前のお客が’next customer’と書いてある棒を、コンベアベルトに置いてくれると、とても嬉しく思う)
※スーパーでのシーンですね。↓こういうやつです
•Doing anything possible for a light tan
(軽く日焼けした肌になるためなら何でもする)
•Owning a picnic hamper but only ever using it once a year
(ピクニックのかごを持っているが、1年に1回しか使わない)
•Starting a controversial statement with ‘I’m not being funny, but…’
(「私は失礼な事を言いたくないんですが・・・」という言葉と共に、物議を醸す発言をする)
※’I’m not being funny’の次に言う内容は、必ず失礼な内容が含まれているそうです 😀
•Being vague about your plans rather than decline an invitation
(招待を断るより、自身の予定をあいまいにする)
※誘いがあったときに、本当は予定がないにもかかわらず「うーん、何か予定が入っていた気がするなぁ・・・」とぼやかす感じ。いかにも日本人っぽいですね
•Thanking someone when you’ve done them a favour
(人に何かしてあげた時に、誰かに感謝する)
•Not correcting someone when they pronounce your name wrong
(自分の名前を間違って読まれても、指摘しない)
•Loving your cat/dog more than your child
(自分の子供より飼い猫/犬をかわいがる)
•Searching your pockets when asked for spare change
(小銭がないか聞かれたときに、ポケットの中を探す)
•Feeling extreme excitement over a Sunday roast dinner
(夕食のサンデーローストを過剰に喜ぶ)
•Having mixed feelings towards the ill colleague who is still coming to work
(風邪を引いたのに会社に来る同僚に、複雑な気持ちになる)
•Being skilled in writing a letter of complaint
(クレーム文を書く才能がある)
いかがですか？
やっぱり、日本人っぽいですね。
イギリスの人は、ヨーロッパ大陸やアメリカ大陸の人たちと自分たち日本人のちょうど中間くらいのマインドを持っていると思います。
やや日本人よりかな、とも思いますが 🙂
‘next customer’のバー、意味もなく欲しいと思っています^^;
