イギリス人のY世代の結婚に関する考え。
1人目は、22歳女性の意見です。
I love marriage and the idea of it, it’s part of my culture as well.
It’s important when it’s with that one special person who knows you; who is your best friend that you’ll spend the rest of your life with.
But the most important thing is to spend your life with one person that will make you happy.
I believe that there is someone for everyone, it’s just finding that person.
I’m a Christian, I’m Seventh-day Adventist so we believe in, like, the whole marriage thing and staying a virgin ’til marriage.
That’s why it is more important to me as well.
いつものように、文章を区切ってみてみましょう。

the idea of it の’it’は、’marriage’を表します。
It’s important when it’s with that one (that is) special person who knows you; who is your best friend that you’ll spend the rest of your life with.
spend : ～を過ごす、(金を)使う、(時間を)費やす(動詞)
one と special の間に、
that is
が省略されています。
前半部分の構成は、
(knows you)
である、
(special person)
に関するとき(it’s with)、
(important)だ
となります。
セミコロン(;)は、前の文の説明を行っています。

についての説明をしています。

という文章があったら、
A、つまり、Bということ
という構成になります。

は、

でもあるし、

でもある。
というイメージです。

ここの’it’は、前の文章の’important thing’を表しています。
また、’finding’は、「～している」ではなく、「～すること」という動名詞的な意味にとりましょう。

whole : すべての(形容詞)
’tilは、’until’の省略形です。
‘like,’は、インタビュー中に出てきたセリフなので、敢えて訳さなくても大丈夫です。
‘we believe in'(信じていること)
の内容は、
(the whole marriage thing)
と、
(staying a virgin ’til marriage)
になります。
That’s why it is more important to me as well.
全体を通して訳すと、
I love marriage and the idea of it, it’s part of my culture as well.
(結婚というもの、その考えが大好きで、それは私自身の文化でもあります。)
It’s important when it’s with that one special person who knows you; who is your best friend that you’ll spend the rest of your life with.
(私のことを知っている特別な人、残り人生を共に過ごす親友の結婚ならとても重要です。)
But the most important thing is to spend your life with one person that will make you happy.
(でも、最も大事なことは、あなたを幸せにしてくれる人と人生を共に過ごすことです。)

いかがでしたか？
クリスチャンという背景があって、
欧米人と言えば遊びまくっている軽いやつら、と思ってしまうときもありますが、そうではない人もたくさんいる、ということです。
やっぱり、一人を見ただけで「これだから○○人は・・・」とその国全体がそうであるかのように一緒くたに見るのではなく、外国人と接するときは偏見なくひとりひとりの考えや性格を見るべきだと思いますね。
